Acerca de COA arquitectura
Filosofía. Somos una oficina de Guadalajara, México, formados en una tradición local de cómo pensar, vivir y construir arquitectura.
Las raíces de nuestro quehacer son, por un lado, el valor que le damos a la historia y el patrimonio para entender nuestro presente y darle sentido, el interés por la construccón llevada al más alto nivel de manufactura, y la ética de nuestro oficio, que nos lleva a buscar una arquitectura comprometida y en relación con los otros:
- con la historia: entendiendo cómo lo han hecho los que nos preceden, de ahí nuestro interés en la tradición y en formar parte de ella
- con las preexistencias: dialogando con el sitio, lo construido, la cultura, el paisaje, los materiales y sistemas locales, etc.
- con los habitantes: mediante una arquitectura que permita hacernos de nuestro lugar en el mundo, y posibilite encuentros: hacia fuera con los otros y hacia adentro con uno mismo.
- con el oficio y su construcción: usando los recursos arquitectónicos de la manera más clara posible, y poniendo atención en todo momento en cómo se construye la idea hasta llegar a la solución del detalle.
Anteponemos la ética a la estética, esta última nos interesa más como resultado que como objetivo.
Para nosotros la idea y el cómo construirla se trabajan paralelamente, por lo que el material y el sistema constructivo fundamentan el proyecto.
Partimos de 5 puntos a manera de estrategia proyectual:
_Contexto (preexistencias y programa)
_Referencias (revisión a la tradición)
_Intenciones (espaciales – compositivas – sensoriales – poéticas)
_Sistema (determinar las “reglas del juego”)
_Junta (en ella está el detalle)
“Debemos hacernos responsables preguntándonos, (…), qué significa construir entre el cielo y la tierra; cómo damos orden y medida a lo que construimos para que todo sea claro; cómo nos apoyamos desde la tierra, cómo nos alzamos y cómo nos relacionamos con el cielo construyendo horizontes artificiales, y qué significa hoy en día modificar la corteza terrestre.”

About COA arquitectura
Philosophy. We are an office in Guadalajara, Mexico, formed in a local tradition of how to think, live and build architecture.
The roots of our work are, on the one hand, the value we give to history and heritage for our present understanding and meaning, the interest in construction taken to the highest level of manufacturing, and the ethics of our craft, which It leads us to look for an architecture that is committed and in relationship with others:
- with history: understanding how those who precede us have done it, hence our interest in tradition and in being part of it
- with preexisting conditions: dialoguing with the site, the built, the culture, the landscape, local materials and systems, etc.
- with the inhabitants: through an architecture that allows us to make our place in the world, and enables encounters: outwards with others and inwards with oneself.
- with the craft and its construction: using architectural resources in the clearest way possible, and paying attention at all times to how the idea is built until reaching the solution of the detail.
We put ethics before aesthetics, the latter interests us more as a result than as an objective.
For us, the idea and how to build it are worked on in parallel, so the material and the construction system base the project.
We start from 5 points as a project strategy:
_Context (preexistences and program)
_References (review of tradition)
_Intentions (spatial – compositional – sensory – poetic)
_System (determine the “rules of the game”)
_Board (the detail is there)

Arq. Francisco Gutiérrez Peregrina
Es arquitecto por el ITESO en 1999 y cuenta con estudios de posgrado en Restauración de Sitios y Monumentos por la Universidad de Guanajuato.
De 1999 a la fecha se ha desarrollado en las líneas de diseño arquitectónico, rehabilitación, difusión y conservación, construcción y mobiliario.
Del 2008 al 2018 impartió la materia de diseño arquitectónico en contextos patrimoniales en el ITESO.
Ha realizado trabajos de documentación y difusión de arquitectura patrimonial para la Secretaría de Cultura del estado de Jalisco y el INAH.
Funda CoA arquitectura en enero del 2013.
Ha desarrollado proyecto y construcción en los géneros: habitacional unifamiliar, vertical, rehabilitación, corporativo, deportivo, comercial, industrial y retail.
Ha expuesto su trabajo en diversos foros a nivel nacional y su obra ha sido publicada en medios impresos y digitales nacionales e internacionales.
Ha sido acreedor a menciones honoríficas en la 5ta y 9a Bienal de Arquitectura de Jalisco y medallas de plata en la 7ma y 8va Bienales de Arquitectura de Jalisco.
Nombrado Académico de Número de la Academia Nacional de Arquitectura Capítulo Guadalajara en Diciembre 2022.
He graduated as an architect from ITESO in 1999 and has postgraduate studies in Restoration of Sites and Monuments from the University of Guanajuato.
From 1999 to date he has developed in the lines of architectural design, rehabilitation, dissemination and conservation, construction and furniture.
From 2008 to 2018 he taught the subject of architectural design in heritage contexts at ITESO.
He has carried out documentation and dissemination work on heritage architecture for the Secretary of Culture of the state of Jalisco and the INAH.
Founded CoA arquitectura in January 2013.
He has developed projects and construction in the genres: single-family housing, vertical, rehabilitation, corporate, sports, commercial, industrial and retail.
He has exhibited his work in various forums nationwide and his work has been published in national and international print and digital media.
He has been awarded honorable mentions at the 5th and 9th Jalisco Architecture Biennials and silver medals at the 7th and 8th Jalisco Architecture Biennials.
Named Full Academician of the National Academy of Architecture, Guadalajara Chapter in December 2022.
